Meet The Counselors |

RORY O'TOOLE
I'm a senior counselor here at Horse Island Camp and I've been personally aware of the high quality summer horse program since 1998. I love the gentle stable that operates here and the wide variety of outdoor activities presented here each joyus summer. Though a close second would definitely be the sun splashed afternoons on the beach or in a kayak. I've been outdoors my whole life and know a great deal about forest survival techniques as well as aquatic rescue programs. In my opinion I believe this to be the most all inclusive horse camp I have ever encounterd . I've been familiar with these magnificent animals ever since Jeanie began aquiring her friendly herd in '98 and I have also come to understand the loving dedication involved with maintaining the horse's habitat. So in conclusion I would just like to say, this camp rocks my socks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEGAN
Hi, my name is Megan, I'm 18 years old and will be attending the University of Orono next year as a freshmen. I once was a full time camper and progressed into a councilor. I started going to the camp when I was about 7 years old. I started horseback riding at Jeanie's camp and loved it so much I continued it as an all time hobby. Not only do I horseback ride, but I've been playing ice hockey for the past three years and was honored as captain my senior year for the Portland Lady Bulldogs. It was a great three years and I hope to keep it up in college. I truly enjoy working outside with the horses and the kids all summer long. I can't wait to see you all this summer!

SOPHI PRESGRAVES
Sophi, 19, started at Horse Island Camp by taking riding lessons 2 times a week with her sister, Echo. Sophi's favorite horse is Merryleggs, the small white appaloosa gelding. Sophi enjoys being around horses all year long. She loves taking the horses to her house to "mow" the lawn! Sophi's expertise at Horse Island Camp is character day, which is every Wednesday, providing the weather works with us! Sophi is very creative and very patient with the children. She also helps with lessons and trail rides. Next year, she's excited to be going away to college to study Spanish and architecture!

ECHO PRESGRAVES
Echo, 16, an oncoming junior at Portland High School began taking lessons at Horse Island Camp twice a week with her sister, Sophi. She has worked with a few other barns but always kept Horse Island Camp her first favorite. When Horse Island Camp first came to Peaks Island, her favorite horse was Mercury. Although when Iron Power arrived her heart grew a little bigger with her new favorite and now she loves Little Joe the best! Echo is still like Iron's mother and knows the horse very well. Echo rides year round and is one of Jeanie's strongest helpers; her ability and kindness with the animals grow just as she does! Echo is in charge of instructing polo wrapping and grooming. She never gets bored around the horses and brings her energy and enthusiasm to the barn. She always loves to share her many stories about the camp horses.
